Christian Democratic Parliamentary GroupThe Christian Democratic Party has 7 MPs in the Parliament. Leader of the group is Bjarne Kallis. The deputy leaders are Leena Rauhala and Toimi Kankaanniemi. As Christian Democrats we want to build a society in which people dare to care, are able and willing to do so and where there is a sense of concern for the weakest. Our aim is that acceptance of responsibility and enterprise will be rewarded in our society. We regard families as the basic units of society, without forgetting those who live on their own. The fundamental values of Christian democracy are human dignity, social responsibility and a partnership between people and nature. We want to work for spiritually sustainable and ecologically responsible development. We regard welfare services, health care, education and competence as our collective capital, on which no compromise can be made. Citizens must get adequate, high-quality basic services without having to go onto long waiting lists and irrespective of wealth. Welfare can not be built on a foundation of materialistic values alone. Our own wellbeing, an effectively functioning economic sector and an internationalising corporate world need a strong ethical base. Loving one’s neighbour, respecting other people, recognising what is right and what is wrong, are the starting points for a development that is sustainable in its underlying values. We want to play a part in improving prospects for peace in the world. Our attitude towards internationalism and cooperation between peoples is positive. The Christian Democrats in Finland are part of the multifaceted Christian Democratic movement that is influential worldwide. Our activities are founded on Christian values, which reflects itself as openness of decision making, honesty, fairness and championing equality. The Christian Democrats in Finland are an open party of citizens, in which citizens’ comments and wishes are heard and pursued in decision making. The Eduskunta enacts laws, decides on taxes and State spending. The decisions made by it directly and indirectly affect the lives of all of us. The Christian Democratic Parliamentary Group works to advance the party’s goals in practice.
