Green Parliamentary Group

Green Parliamentary Group The Green Parliamentary Group
The Green Parliamentary Group has 14 MPs. The Group is chaired by Anni Sinnemäki. Her deputies are Janina Andersson and Ville Niinistö. The Group?s office has a staff of 5 and each Representative has his or her own personal assistant.

The Greens are an environmental party on the agenda of which protection of the natural environment and the Baltic Sea as well as energy- and climate-related matters have long featured prominently. An ecological tax reform and questions associated with harmonising work and family are likewise important to us. The Greens has presented numerous initiatives concerning especially day care and the position of families with children. We have striven consistently to promote the position of minorities and, as one result, the Eduskunta has adopted legislation to give official status to same-sex civil partnerships. So-called group discipline is not practised in the Green Parliamentary Group. Green Representatives have the right to present opinions at variance with the position of the Group and may express these opinions both in public and in the course of their parliamentary work. However, if the Group has made a so-called group decision on some or other matter, a Representative who adopts a divergent view must inform the Group of this in good time.

How do the Greens? decisions and policies emerge in practice?

Simply through diligent discussion and by presenting thoroughly reasoned arguments in support of our own views. We appreciate hearing the opinions of NGOs, such as environmental organisations, and bodies that promote equality as well as the rights of minorities are important sources of information and discussion partners for the Greens.
